  1. Meeting Preliminaries

  2. Executive Session

To discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining or litigation if an open meeting may have a detrimental effect on the bargaining or litigating position of the public body and the chair so declares. Selectboard will reconvene in Open Session after the close of Executive Session.

  3. Business

    • ConCom Agent Update

      General Discussion...
      Conservation Commission Agent
Margie heard from the Town of Hadley that they are looking for a Conservation Commission Agent also. Hadley has someone interested with education but not experience. Tom also found a student working in a liquor store who just graduated From UMASS in May 2021 with a BS in environmental science and is looking for work in the field. He has already filled out an application. Tom also emailed several entities, including UMASS department heads, about the vacancy. The Conservation Commission will be able to follow up with interviews.
Jed P., Finance Committee member wanted to ensure that the pay grade was going to attract and keep a qualified person.

    • Minutes of August 18 and 31

      General Discussion...
The minutes of August 18 and 31 were approved.

    • Newsletter/website policies

      General Discussion...
Lisa asked if the board would support a website policy that allowed only government business as several inquiries are received per month asking for links to be put up. They agreed that the site is for town/government business only.

The possibility of posting the Newsletter to the website instead of mailing 900 copies was discussed. Lisa estimated that it costs about $2,000 a year to mail and lots of time and volunteer help. The possibility of posting it to the website and putting paper copies out in the Library, Post Office, and Town Hall for those that want a paper copy was discussed as a possibility as were email subscriptions. A final decision will be made at the next meeting and announced in the Oct. 1 Newsletter.

    • Treasurer/Collector Positions

      General Discussion...
Margie told the board that Jason, the Treasurer and Tax Collector will be leaving in November. This gives the town about 6 weeks to find a replacement. Jason has been using his own Tax Collector software in access. The Town will need to look into getting new software. Patriot is used by the Assessor’s Office and may be compatible come tax time. Julie will ask Jason if he would stay on remotely using his software for a year while the town does some research. Margie will advertise the position as either one or both, Tax Collector and Treasurer.

  4. Sign

    • Community Compact Contract for Elder Studies

      General Discussion...
The Board signed the Communities Compact Grant for Elder Studies. Margie, Melissa, Fay, and Judy will meet to decide how to spend the money on surveying town elders.

    • MOU FCSWMD: Household Hazardous Waste

      General Discussion...
The Board signed the FCSWMD MOU for Household Hazardous Waste.
